India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has invited request for proposals from consultants for drawing up a long-term vision, implementation plan, roadmap and institutional framework for executing the 'One World One Sun One Grid (OWOSOG) project.

The project aims to connect solar energy supply across borders through an interconnected power grid. It aims to connect India, Middle East, South Asia and South East Asia in the first phase, the African power pool in the second phase and globally in the third phase.

The study, to be conducted over a 13-month period, will assess renewable energy potential of individual countries and how it can be shared with each other, and identify 2-3 cross border pilot projects, preferably one each in Middle East, South East and Africa, with India as the grid fulcrum for these pilots.

The project was first announced in 2018 by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the first assembly of the International Solar Alliance - an alliance envisioned as an OPEC equivalent for meeting global future energy needs.

6 July 2020 is the last submission date. The proposal will be evaluated and approved in four weeks.
