Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government is planning to build 3,000 fast charging stations over the next three years, Minister of Public Business sector Hisham Tawfik stated on Tuesday.

During 2020, the government will sign a group of agreements for the production of electric cars in Egypt, the minister added, according to the Middle East News Agency.

Tawfik noted that the new charging stations will be built in diverse areas.

The government is set to oblige public authorities, economic bodies, and the public sector companies to replace 5% of their car fleet by electric cars annually, he said.

The government will also support the first 100,000 locally manufactured electric cars by EGP 50,000 per car, on condition that these cars would have the capacity to do more than 400 kilometres per charge, Tawfik announced.
