UAE - As many as 33,625 violations were issued by Al Muraqqabat police station in Dubai during the National Sterilisation Programme in the Emirate, an officer has said.

The station issued 27,892 warnings and 5,697 fines to those who violated the precautionary measures implemented to stop the spread of Covid-19, said Brigadier Ali Ghanem, director of Muraqqabat police station.

"A team of police officers monitored the movement of the public during the timings of the programme and worked to raise the awareness about the precautionary measures," he said.

The officer noted that the team worked with the concerned health authorities to implement the measures, adding that the police also monitored traffic movement and established check points to verify the movement permits of the public.

"Police patrols were working round the clock to implement the measures and talk to people about keeping social distancing for their own safety. We also distributed face masks and gloves among the public," said Brig Bin Ghanim.
