Nearly 650,000 Chinese tourists have visited Dubai in the first eight months of 2019, according to Dubai Tourism, the emirate's department of tourism and commerce marketing

"The city continues to welcome an increased number of Chinese visitors with positive 12 per cent year-on-year growth," Dubai Tourism said in a press statement on the launch of instant VAT refunds for Chinese tourists.

Dubai Tourism has extended its support to We Tax Refund on the WeChat Mini Programme, launched by Chinese tech giant, Tencent, and international payments service provider, Planet. The facility will enable Chinese visitors to Dubai to claim instant VAT refunds in RMB currency into their WeChat wallets at Dubai Airports.

The refund facility was launched as part of Dubai's 'China Readiness' strategy to bolster growth from one of the city's leading source markets.
