Setting a benchmark for excellence in the global Islamic finance industry
The winners of the 10th Islamic Business & Finance Awards were announced at a gala dinner held at Emirates Towers Hotel, Dubai on Thursday, 10 December 2015, attended by some 200 Islamic bankers and financiers from around the world. A total of nearly 40,000 votes were cast across 64 categories in the online poll held on www.cpifinancial.net.
The top Award, for Best Islamic Bank, went to Dubai Islamic Bank, based on analysis of the bank's audited financial statements as published in the Leaders in Islamic Finance annual supplement to Islamic Business & Finance.
Jamal Saeed Bin Ghalaita, CEO, Emirates Islamic, was named Banker of the Year. Within the last 12 months, among a host of new product launches and innovative steps, the bank he leads has embraced next generation ATMs, launched a first-of-its-kind consumer-focused survey on Islamic banking, signed smart payment platform agreements with Government entities and launched the world's first fully-integrated online Islamic Trade Finance platform. Emirates Islamic picked up three Awards: Best Commercial Bank - UAE; Best Retail Bank - UAE; and Best Wealth Management - Middle East.
Dr. Adnan Chilwan, GCEO, Dubai Islamic Bank, received the Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Islamic Economy, reflecting a strong year of growth both domestically and internationally for Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB). In addition to the top Award of the night, DIB itself won five other Awards while the ceremony also recognised its consultancy unit Dar Al Sharia and subsidiaries and associates in Jordan, Pakistan and Sudan, acknowledging the bank's growing international stature.
The event was sponsored by the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre and partnered by the Dubai International Financial Centre.
The Islamic Business & Finance Awards programme, this year honouring winners from Africa, Asia and the Middle East, is designed to highlight, encourage and reward the exceptional performance and growth of the international Islamic business and finance community.
