Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) group at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication organised a virtual trade forum between US small and medium enterprises (SMES) specialising in the aviation sector and Bahraini companies.
The two-day event, which drew more than 50 personalities representing 20 American companies, is part of the efforts exerted by BIAS High Organising Committee, chaired by Personal Representative of His Majesty the King HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to maintain communication with specialised international companies in the civil and military aviation industry in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in the cancellation of the 6th edition of BIAS that was scheduled to be hosted by Bahrain from November 18 to 20 at Sakhir Airbase.
The virtual forum was organised in cooperation with the US Coleman International Company, the Office of the Governor of California and the US embassy in Bahrain.
Marking the occasion, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunication, HE Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, the Deputy Chairman of BIAS High Organising Committee, stressed the importance of such commercial forums in showcasing Bahrain’s pioneering status in the region so as to lure investments by the US leading companies in the aviation sector. He pointed out the great incentives and facilities provided by Bahrain for investors.
In the inaugural session of the virtual forum, Chief Executive of Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), Mohammed Yousef Al-Binfalah, presented a briefing on the progress of construction work in the new passengers’ terminal at Bahrain International Airport.
He said the project is part of the kingdom’s plan to invest in development projects to upgrade the transportation and telecommunication networks and ensure they meet international standards. He also shed light on the main commercial contracts signed with some US companies during the construction period, reviewing the cooperation and investment opportunities with the specialised US companies in the aviation industry.
Gulf Air Company Acting Chief Executive, Captain Walid Abdul Hamid Al Alawi participated in the virtual forum. He spoke about the company’s history, vision and future plans for the period following the coronavirus pandemic so as to boost its operational network.
He also shed light on development of the national carrier and the commercial relations between Bahrain and the US, pointing out purchase of the US Boeing 787 Dreamliner which joined the company’s fleet in 2018.
BAC Chief Executive, Salman Al Mahmid, pointed out the company’s comprehensive plan to optimise its land services offered to its customers at Bahrain International Airport in conjunction with the near inauguration of the new passengers terminal which will play a vital role in providing outstanding services for all international aviation companies.
Mena Aerospace Company Executive Director for Aviation Services, Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Jama’an, also spoke in the forum. The company takes Bahrain International Airport as a centre for its operational operations in the maintenance and operation of airplanes and providing companies with equipment related to the aviation sector through the international agencies representing them in the kingdom.
The company is looking forward to working with the US companies to expand its activities in the future.
Texel Air Company Chief Executive, George Chisholm, presented a briefing on the work of the company which operates airplanes specialising in air freight and passengers transportation at the same time.
It is one of the recently-innovated companies for such services and takes Bahrain Airport as a centre for its air operations.
Aviation Information Director at the Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry’s Civil Aviation Affairs, Yassine Al-Sayed, presented an account on the air navigation services offered by Bahrain to international companies and the modern equipment supplied for the new Air Control Centre at Bahrain International Airport, which will be inaugurated next year.
A number of officers from the Royal Bahrain Air Force also participated in the forum and discussed ways of boosting cooperation with the US companies in the maintenance and modernisation of military jetfighters and air navigation equipment.
On her part, Representative of the Governor of California for Trade and Investment Cooperation for the Middle East and Europe, Emily Dezar, expressed happiness at holding the commercial forum between Bahrain and California City, wishing all every success in coming up with fruitful results to further boost the Bahraini-US relations.
On his part, the Commercial Attache in the US embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ryan Flory, expressed thanks and respect to the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication, BIAS Group and the US Coleman International Company for organizing such forums aimed at boosting trade cooperation between SMES in Bahrain and California City. - TradeArabia News Service
