NMC Healthcare subsidiary acquires LifeWise Home Healthcare

Abu Dhabi, UAE, November 28, 2016: ProVita International Medical Center, NMC Healthcare subsidiary and the UAE’s pioneer of long-term care for chronically ill pediatric and adult patients requiring continuous medical intervention, has acquired homecare provider LifeWise Home Healthcare. The deal is set to further improve the quality of life of long-term care patients and their families across the UAE, while cementing ProVita’s dominance in the long-term care market in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The acquisition will bring in LifeWise’s experienced, Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD)-certified nursing team, which specializes in home-based intermittent and continuous care, including day-to-day support, pain management, rehabilitative, and lifestyle management services. These services will complement those already offered by ProVita to patients with traumatic injuries, congenital disease, or chronic illness at its state-of-the-art dedicated facilities in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; these include professional medical care, skilled nursing, and therapeutic rehab treatment.

“This is an exciting new chapter in ProVita’s journey towards improving the quality of life of patients needing long-term care in Abu Dhabi,” said Michael Davis, Chief Executive Officer of ProVita. “When we first started, our aim was to bring these patients out of the hospital and into a homelike setting that was closer to their loved ones and that provided them with comprehensive, holistic, top quality care. We’ve helped improve the quality of life of more than 200 patients over the past five years, most of whom are Emirati, and some of whom were even able to return from being treated abroad. By welcoming LifeWise’s caregivers into our family, we can now fulfill our patients’ need for tailored clinical and rehabilitative care in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes.”

ProVita is also the only long-term care facility in the emirate to offer its patients bedside hemodialysis services, in collaboration with Al Ain Life Home Health Care, a leading provider of the service. The service, which uses state-of-the-art portable machines to make up for decreased kidney function to rid the blood of toxins, improves patients’ quality of life by reducing the risk of infection and complications and the need to travel far for treatment . This unique service will now be offered to home-care patients for even more convenience.

“Since its inception, LifeWise has been committed to increasing the length and quality of life for our patients, their families, and the communities we serve,” said Fernando Parker, Founder and Managing Director of LifeWise. “With ProVita we can set new industry benchmarks for the homecare model of care in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. This new synergistic relationship will bridge the gap between world class long-term care and homecare, while reducing costs for patients and insurers alike.”

ProVita is the largest private provider of inpatient long-term care in the emirate of Abu Dhabi according to the latest Health Authority – Abu Dhabi statistics: its facilities in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain house 28.8 percent of patients with neuropsychological disorders and 16 percent of those with congenital disorders, ranking it first and second in those categories among all providers in the emirate. It is also the fifth leading provider of inpatient care for non-traffic-accident injury and respiratory cases.

Demand for homecare and long-term care in the GCC is set to grow at a fast pace, according to a recent report by professional services firm Ernst & Young, particularly with the population of those over the age of 60 growing by 8 percent annually between 2014 and 2024.
