A new report from the Arab Advisors Group and MediaGuru provides an in depth analysis of the state of television and the Internet convergence in 20 countries in the MENA region. The report found that the rising Internet penetration levels are changing the dynamics of watching TV.
A new report published by the Arab Advisors Group and MediaGuru analyzed the state of convergence in the MENA region and looked into the future of digital content in 20 countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, IraqKuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, SaudiArabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the UAE and Yemen. The report revealed that among all the countries analyzed in the study, the GCC countries are the most ready countries for convergence. Followed by Lebanon and Jordan
While the region is not fully ready for convergence considering a number of countries do not have the infrastructure, governmental motivation and more importantly the viewers' mentality to view their content online, 49% of FTA channels currently provide their content online, and the majority of pay-tv providers, for their part offer their content online, with some of these providers offering content available solely on the Internet.
