The Israeli Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will host two special events on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) on Wednesday, February 9th and Thursday, February 10th at 4pm. The two events are held in collaboration with the Swedish Pavilion, the United Nations University for Peace and the Israel-UAE Business Council.

The two events will include panel discussions and round-tables. On Wednesday the focus will be on women empowerment and their active participation in science, technology and innovation (STI), to become decision-makers on national security issues. Panelists will share best practices about successful projects and programs to promote young women's participation in various fields. On Thursday, attendees will hear about diplomacy and diplomatic initiatives to reach gender equality and gender inclusion, in alignment with the 2030 (UN) agenda and the sustainable development goals (SDG 5), about feminist foreign policy and empowerment of women in STI.

Gender Equality and Gender Mainstreaming have become core issues on the global agenda and an integral part of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG5). Amina J Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN said: “When women are at the table, we have a better chance of building a human-centered, just and sustainable world.”

Israel is committed to working with like-minded countries to promote gender equality. The Israeli Ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Amir Hayek as well as the Special Envoy of Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Ambassador, Aviva Raz Shechter, regard Expo2020 Dubai as a unique opportunity for dialogue and for sharing best practices on matters of national, regional and global security and the way to empower women to become players and decision-makers on these issues.

The Special Envoy will lead a delegation of seven outstanding Israeli women in the fields of; science, technology, innovation and diplomacy, to share their experience and expertise on how to reach our common goals.

The Israel Pavilion in EXPO2020 Dubai is a project spearheaded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Designed without walls, for maximum openness, attendees of Expo 2020 and beyond are invited to the Israel pavilion. Israel is a place of innovation, offering a vision and horizon in dealing with the challenges of humanity. The pavilion has an emphasis on challenges such as; agriculture, water, medicine, communications and cyber issues.
