The European Space Agency astronaut and Saab advisor Christer Fuglesang, who has been on two space shuttle missions and five spacewalks, is hosted by the Swedish Pavilion at Expo 2020 for Space Week.

The UAE’s space industry is rapidly evolving as it explores the latest technology solutions and enters conversations to involve the private sector in its ambition to grow. Saab, a leading defence and security company in the UAE, recognizes this and is taking  part in Space Week at the Swedish Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai alongside Fuglesang.

As part of its space offer, Saab is developing high-end technology that contributes to improve its users’ understanding of the Earth. With extensive experience in developing and implementing complex command and control systems, Saab has broadened its offer with a solution connecting several of the company's existing products and sensor information with satellite data. Together with partners, Saab will also develop space-based communication for the maritime sector via the new automatic tracking standard, VDES (VHF Data Exchange System). Saab is also developing a surface-based space surveillance radar.

“Saab’s massive data fusion solutions and the space-based communication solutions for the maritime sector are examples of how it is developing the latest space technology to take Saab’s solutions to the next level and help us better understand Earth,” said Christer Fugelsang. “There is no better time for the UAE to become an important player in the space industry, which provides excellent opportunities to enable businesses to contribute to a sustainable future.”
