Pioneering Company, One of First to Receive Provisional Approval as a Government-backed Tadbeer Center, Redefines Full-Time Maid Service in the UAE

One of the first Government-backed Tadbeer recruitment centers for domestic workers, Maids.cc, is offering the country’s residents a convenient and risk-free method to finding their next full-time maid.

Hiring reliable domestic help has long been a taxing process for UAE families, often leaving clients vulnerable to legal liabilities, inundated with complicated paperwork, and subject to substantial replacement costs.

However, a unique model adopted by the Dubai-based venture Maids.cc promises to take care of the most challenging aspects of bringing a new maid home, from visa provisions and Emirates ID registration to travel fees and health insurance.

All Maids.cc employees are already on the company visa -- clients simply pay a flat monthly fee and have an opportunity to interview up to 20 maids face-to-face (or via Skype for clients in other Emirates) before making their selection. Should clients be unhappy with their choice for any reason, they can simply request to have their maid replaced until they find the most suitable candidate. Clients also have 24/7 access to customer support.

“We understand that at the end of the day, hiring help is meant to make life easier, not more stressful. The traditional paper CV route to finding a maid can often result in unpleasant surprises, leading to frustration and distress on all sides,” said Jad Barghout, Chief Operating Officer of Maids.cc.

“You’re hiring a maid to help look after your home and take care of your children, so how can you trust a mere CV? Wouldn’t you want to spend time with her first? This is the service you get in our office on the spot,” added Barghout. “And we take care of all the formalities – so no multiple visits to Government offices, no visits to typing centers and medical centers. You can take your maid home the same day and she can start work immediately.”

Domestic helpers at Maids.cc are thoroughly vetted before recruitment, have at least two years experience working in the Gulf, and undergo a comprehensive 10-day training program on tasks ranging from cleaning and ironing to First Aid and infant care.

The Maids.cc model is meant to keep both the client and the employee happy. As per the contract, maids are off one day a week and work a maximum of 12 hours per day. They are also granted 30 days annual paid leave and have access to medical care through the Maids.cc provided health insurance.

“We firmly believe that happy maids mean happy customers,” explains Rhizaldy Manalo, General Manager. “If your domestic helper is treated fairly and with respect, she will complete her tasks with greater diligence and energy. That is why our model also protects our maids’ basic rights, which in return leads to better performance.”

For a long-term contract [more than 30 days and up to 2 years], clients pay a one-time AED 5,000 initiation fee and then a flat rate of AED 3,500 per month. Clients can terminate a contract at their own will without any penalty fees, provided a one-month notice is given.

“And moneywise, if you compare the recruitment and yearly costs you would incur by sponsoring a maid on your own, you wouldn’t be too far from the monthly AED 3,500 we charge,” explains Barghout. “Except, of course, our approach saves you the logistical headaches involved in personal sponsorship, which can cost you precious time and energy.”

For a short-term contract [30 days], the flat monthly fee is AED 4,500 per month. There is no initiation fee.

Announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiritisation earlier this year, Tadbeer Centers aim to raise the standard of maid services in the UAE and protect the rights of domestic workers. To become a licensed Tadbeer Center, private operators undergo a meticulous screening process and meet a set of strict criteria, including the training and thorough vetting of all maids, appropriate working conditions, and spacious offices.
