PepsiCo, the leading global food and beverage company, raised the curtain on its commemoration support for Expo 2020 Dubai – revealing a range of limited-edition, co-branded Pepsi cans celebrating Expo 2020’s sub-themes. The cans, sporting the event’s distinct logo and vibrant designs, will be released in key markets to help spread the word to a global audience and reach the expected 25 million Expo visits next year.

The three designs – the first of a series of co-branded beverages and snacks to be unveiled by PepsiCo – are differentiated through color to symbolize Expo 2020’s subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.

The public will be able to purchase the limited-edition cans from modern trade, traditional retailers and eateries in several countries across Asia, Middle East and North Africa, with the United Arab Emirates as the first to go on sale, starting December 2019. The new designs will also adorn a fleet of PepsiCo trucks across the UAE. These trucks will be emblazoned with the new designs and the official logo of Expo 2020 Dubai, The World’s Greatest Show.

In keeping with Expo 2020 and PepsiCo’s joint commitment to sustainability, the limited-edition cans are made from 100% aluminum, ensuring they are fully recyclable. This is in line with PepsiCo’s own sustainability goals and the circular economy. PepsiCo has committed to design 100 percent of its packaging to be recyclable, compostable or biodegradable by 2025.

Eugene Willemsen, CEO, PepsiCo Africa, Middle East, and South Asia (AMESA), said: “We are delighted to be a premier partner of Expo 2020 Dubai and these limited-edition packages are just the beginning of PepsiCo’s participation in The World’s Greatest Show. The vision of Expo 2020 and its sub-themes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability closely reflect our ‘Winning with Purpose’ agenda. We have some exciting plans in store for 2020 and look forward to revealing more in the coming months.”

Sanjive Khosla, Chief Commercial Officer, Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “This partnership with PepsiCo will expand the reach of Expo 2020’s message that when we collaborate, we can create a brighter future for all. Through thought-provoking journeys, we’re committed to inspiring millions of Expo 2020 visitors to act and unlock opportunities for human advancement. We are excited to work with a partner that can carry impactful Expo-inspired imagery to generate excitement among potential visitors and encourage them to come and experience The World’s Greatest Show.”

About the PepsiCo – Expo 2020 Dubai Design

The three bold designs, each featuring vibrant custom illustrations, elicit a vision of the future to tell a unique story, based on different cultures, experiences and backgrounds. Created in-house by the PepsiCo design team, the visual identity will first appear on a limited-edition collection of Pepsi cans that will be distributed throughout top markets within the region.

“Though unified in their circular design representing a metaphorical window to tomorrow, the three cans are differentiated through color to symbolize Expo 2020’s themes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability,” said Mauro Porcini, Senior Vice President and Chief Design Officer at PepsiCo. “With these eye-catching, thought-provoking designs, we’re excited to stimulate conversation about Expo 2020 on a global scale.”

PepsiCo is the Official Beverage and Snack Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai. Pre and during the event, PepsiCo will leverage the collective power of its portfolio of brands to ensure the themes of Expo 2020 reach millions of households internationally and create 25 million more smiles with every sip and every bite for Expo 2020 visitors.
