Al Ain: The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University is among the largest colleges at the level of the flagship university and at the level of other universities in the country, with around 3,500 enrolled students.

The college includes eight academic departments: Department of Arabic Language and Literature, Department of Languages and Literature, Department of Tourism and Heritage, Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability, Department of Cognitive Sciences, Department of Media and Creative Industries, Department of Government and Society, and Department of Social Wellbeing. The college effectively promotes and develops academic partnerships and local and international exchanges.

The Dean of the College, Prof. Hassan Alnaboodah says: "We have a number of academic programs and services for students, faculty members and administrative staff, and because we work at the UAEU, the "University of the Future", the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is fully prepared to offer all new educational programs for undergraduate and graduate students. We also encourage distinguished student projects and provide all state-of-the-art facilities to raise the level of research productivity, especially as we are about to offer programs that keep pace with digital transformation and achieve a wellbeing appropriate for the college academic professional environment.”

Activities

The college is also remarkably conducting activities and events of high and vital impact, serving all segments of society. The college is unique in presenting societal and political issues, including: Building Political Awareness Forum for undergraduate  students, which is an annual event held in cooperation between the College and the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, UAE-French Relations Forum, Chinese Relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Tolerance Forum, which presents the UAE achievements with other countries and cultures shedding light on coexistence, equality and interdependence in the UAE, in addition to Reading month and other activities.

Achievements

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences has achieved many great achievements that serve students, faculty members and researchers, especially with regard to student exchange, students training, research and patents with local and external institutions, including: Signing agreements with Louvre Museum, and Emarat Al Youm newspaper.

Also, the college has created academic and societal cooperation and exchange with many institutions, including: Juvenile Care Center, Community Development, and penal and correctional facilities at the Ministry of Interior.

With regard to the digital world, the college was able to achieve third place in the Leiden ranking 2021 at the level of the Arab world for research in humanities and social sciences. This result reflects the great effort made by the college in disseminating intensive research within its strategic plan.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences looks forward to continuing to achieve tangible achievements in the fields of teaching and learning, academic research and innovation, and community service, in accordance with the strategic and action plans that aim to achieve the institutional goals of the United Arab Emirates University.
