Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre at the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced the signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arab Youth Centre in Abu Dhabi. The agreement was signed during the 30th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which is being held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre until 29 May 2021.

The agreement supports the mutual goals of the two centres in ways that will benefit youth, particularly with regards to the promotion of Arabic as a language of life, culture and creativity. Through the MoU, the two parties will coordinate joint efforts in the development of cultural projects supporting young Arabs, as well as supervise, mentor and organise events, activities, seminars, conferences and workshops. The two organisations will benefit from shared databases and cooperate in joint programmes to communicate with young people, offering them the support they need.

His Excellency Saeed Al Nazari, Director General of the Federal Youth Authority of the UAE and Chief Strategy Officer of the Arab Youth Centre said “ The relationship of youth with language is directly linked to their identities; acquiring linguistic skills is a critical component in building their character and forming their personalities. Arab Youth Centre programmes, initiatives and strategic partnerships are therefore focussed on building character in our young people.

He added, “The youth possess great technical skills and they are always up to date on the latest trends and developments in technology. They are capable of using these advanced skills, in producing creative Arabic content, and spreading it to reach Arabic speakers around the world. In line with this, and with its innovative programmes and unique initiatives, our cooperation with the Arabic language Centre is essential to enriching the quality and quantity of  Arabic content.”

His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, said: “Our youth are the driving force behind the development of any nation, embodying our hopes for a better tomorrow. We at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre have young people at the heart of our strategies and it is our duty to fuel their passion for the Arabic language, helping them to master their mother tongue and make it a dynamic part of their daily lives. The Arab Youth Centre has worked with many Arab governments, launching great initiatives to help nurture a generation of young leaders, and we are proud to cooperate with them to serve the youth of the Arab world.”

Mouza Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre and Director of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, confirmed that this partnership “reflects the Arabic Language Centre’s clear desire to have an established and effective presence among our youth”. She added, “Since its establishment, the Arab Youth Centre has provided a welcoming space for young people of all ages and from all walks of life, while acknowledging the diversity of their needs and their creative, scientific, and artistic interests. With this agreement, the Arabic Language Centre will offer its full capabilities and expertise to assist in achieving the strategic goals of the Arab Youth Centre, confirming the importance placed on the younger generations in our vision and strategies.”

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, organised by DCT Abu Dhabi and managed by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, has announced that it will open its doors to visitors of all ages provided a they present a negative result from a PCR test conducted in the previous 48 hours.

Taking place at until 29 May at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the fair is offering free PCR tests to visitors aged 12 years and above, across all Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) testing centres within the emirate of Abu Dhabi, upon presenting their fair entry pass. Children below 12 will be permitted to enter the fair with one guardian to every two children.  

The event will continue to observe and impose a set of comprehensive precautionary measures such as checking temperatures at the entrances, social distancing, and limiting visitor numbers inside the exhibition halls and exhibitor pavilions.

Visitors must register in advance to obtain an electronic access card, either through the website https://adbookfair.com/en  or the smartphone application of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair
