Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed confidence on Sunday that the emirate will “dazzle” the world with its hosting of the World Expo, which was postponed for a year due to coronavirus.
Sheikh Hamdan, who is also the chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, issued the statement after visiting the Expo site, where he was briefed on the preparations to host the mega event.
The world's fair, held every five years, will run from October 1, 2021 to March 2022 and is expected to attract 25 million visitors. It was first scheduled to run from October 2020, but organisers opted to delay the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Expo site is home to several architectural pieces, such as the pavilions of participating countries, including Canada, Australia, Singapore, Austria, Belgium, China, Finland, France and Germany, among several others.
Each pavilion is expected to be an attraction that offers a diverse experience to visitors.
According to the Expo 2020 website, Singapore’s pavilion will feature a rainforest, while the Netherlands’ will showcase an integrated climate system that harvests water, energy and food through innovations including a vertical farm.
The Brazil pavilion will enable visitors to take in the sights, sounds and scents of the Amazon basin and discover the country’s rich biodiversity.
“Today, I visited Expo 2020 Dubai and was proud to see a great level of readiness at the site, with Dubai gearing up to host the major international event, featuring a set of innovative and inspiring programmes and events,” Hamdan said on Twitter.
“Thanks to the directives of our wise leadership and their diligent follow-up on the event with great precision, we aim to dazzle the world through this international platform, displaying the world’s culture, heritage, history and top innovations.”
The Dubai Expo will see the participation of more than 190 countries. The crown prince said it will be the “most exceptional edition” of the Expo in its 168-year history.
“We made a promise to our leadership to organise the best ever Expo event that showcases the capabilities of the UAE and its people to the entire world,” he said.
“We are very confident that Expo 2020 Dubai will offer innovative global platforms for all nations to present their culture, innovation and creativity and showcase their solutions for global challenges.”
About 25 million visitors are expected to visit the Expo in Dubai that will run from October 1, 2021 to March 2022.
