AmCham Abu Dhabi's Annual Women in Business Event 2019

One way that UPS supports gender balance is by encouraging women entrepreneurs to participate in international trade

Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. –AmCham Abu Dhabi’s Women in Business Committee, celebrated its 6th anniversary on March 5, 2019 at The Abu Dhabi EDITION. The event featured keynote addresses by healthcare industry expert, Dr. Yousif Rashid Matar Al Zaabi and Kathleen Marran, Vice President, Diverse Segments Marketing UPS.

Sharief Fahmy, AmCham Abu Dhabi Chairman welcomed the attendees in his opening remarks. “The AmCham Abu Dhabi Women in Business Committee has been working diligently to empower women in the workplace by organizing numerous events, programs and initiatives that benefit members and WOMEN Ambassadors. U.A.E. continues to take concrete steps towards pushing tolerance and diversity. Following the heels on the Year of Zayed, and now the Year of Tolerance, we should follow the lead not only by pushing the boundaries of diversity and tolerance, but also gender equality.”

Rinad Nazzal, Women in Business Committee member, introduced the theme for the event and explained what it means to the committee: “‘Balance for better’ is the 2019 campaign theme of the International Women’s Day; we embraced the theme and combined it with “making a difference in the Year of Tolerance” because it summarizes our objective. We want to help inspire you all to drive action. Our aim is to make a difference and engage all of you to build a gender-balanced world.”

“One way that UPS supports gender balance is by encouraging women entrepreneurs to participate in international trade and expanding their capacity to grow. Together UPS and the UPS Foundation launched the Women Exporters Program last year to help women-owned businesses around the world fortify skills which allows them to easily reach new markets. I am honored to be a part of AmCham Abu Dhabi's annual event to celebrate and champion women in businesses,” said Kathleen Marran, Vice President of Diverse Segment Marketing at UPS.

Through his insightful presentation, Dr. Yousif Matar Al Zaabi demonstrated how balance (art) is defined as harmony of design and proportion, and how that can be incorporated into our lives; adopting a more gender balanced design, leads to a more harmonized, balanced life. He also highlighted some of U.A.E.’s future sustainable development goals, which aim to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
