P&O Maritime Logistics (POML), a leading marine solutions and logistics company and a subsidiary of Dubai-based marine terminal operator DP World has appointed Martin Helweg as its new chief executive officer.

For the past three years, Helweg was responsible for P&O Maritime Logistics' global operations.

In his new role, he will be reporting to Mike Bhaskaran, DP World's Chief Operating Officer for Logistics and Technology, allowing POML to fully integrate around a single customer value proposition.

Prior to this, Helweg spent over 15 years in marine service solutions working for Svitzer, an AP Moller-Maersk Company in regional CFO and CEO roles across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, said the statement from POML.

Offering a distinctive value proposition to customers, POML focuses on three strategic segments – Offshore, Port Services and Logistics – delivering world-class capabilities across industries, with safety and the environment at the forefront.

A core focus for POML's is to further optimise offshore logistics for energy companies. With the company's very robust track record, global clients, diverse assets and knowledge of its customers' operations, POML is uniquely positioned to continue disrupting this part of the supply chain.

Lauding the appointment, DP World Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: "I am confident that Helweg will provide strong leadership to P&O Maritime Logistics and the company's senior management going forward. We look forward to the next stage of the company's journey under Martin's stewardship, continuing to deliver a difference that drives value for our customers."

"I would like to thank Rene Kofod-Olsen for his contribution to DP World during the transition of Topaz Energy and Marine into P&O Maritime Logistics," he added.

On the appointment, Helweg said: "P&O Maritime Logistics is uniquely positioned in the maritime logistics space to reshape the market. DP World affords us global reach and strength and allows increased investments in the fleet and in technology and innovation."

"We will leverage these strengths, and our organization's core capabilities and maritime legacy to change this industry and deliver maximum value to our stakeholders. I look forward to continuing to build on our healthy business profile, strengthen relationships with key customers and partners while maintaining our position as a market leader," stated the chief executive.

Helweg's appointment supports DP World's strategy to grow its presence in marine logistics and maintain its excellent market position following the Group's recent acquisition of Topaz Energy and Marine and its integration with P&O Maritime.-TradeArabia News Service
