AMMAN The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) on Monday announced the launch of a new online platform, operating as a database that is open to the public, which will regulate e-commerce as of next Thursday.

The governments launch of the platform comes in response to demands from the business sector seeking protection for local businesses from stagnation due to an increase in online shopping, JCD Director General Abdelmajid Rahamneh said during a meeting attended by representatives from the Amman and Jordan chambers of commerce.

Rahamneh added that the Cabinets decision on the regulation of e-commerce will come into effect as of Thursday with the aim of creating a balance between traditional and online trade, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
