Cairo –   The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and Banque Misr signed a protocol of cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population to support the country’s efforts against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic with EGP 60 million.

The protocol of cooperation will help provide the needed medical supplies, the spokesman of the health ministry Khaled Megahed said in a joint statement released by the two banks on Tuesday.

The donation will be used to purchase several CT scanners needed for quarantine hospitals.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, NBE has contributed a total of EGP 750 million to the medical sector, while Banue Misr’s contributions to fighting the pandemic have reached EGP 600 million.

The number of COVID-19 infections in Egypt reached 88,402 after the health ministry confirmed 627 new cases on Monday. The total number of recoveries reached 28,924, while the death toll registered 4,352.
