Muscat: To reduce the consumption of electricity, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MERA) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with a specialised company to study, develop and implement alternative energy technology for mosques.

MERA said: "A memorandum of cooperation was signed with a specialised company, in the framework of the Ministry's endeavour to study, develop and implement alternative energy technology solutions in mosques, and Awqaf buildings."

"The project seeks to achieve environmental sustainability and raise the efficiency of the use of natural resources, and is in line with the Ministry's direction to rationalise the consumption of electricity, water and other services in mosques and mosques, " MERA added.
