Spain and Ireland have asked Brussels to "urgently" examine whether Israel is complying with its human rights obligations in its blistering military campaign in Gaza, the Spanish premier said Wednesday.

"Given the critical situation in Rafah, Ireland and Spain have just requested the European Commission to urgently review whether Israel is complying with its obligations to respect human rights in Gaza," Pedro Sanchez wrote on X, formerly Twitter, calling for an immediate ceasefire.
