German exports rose unexpectedly in April, increasing by 1.2% on the previous month, data showed on Monday.

A Reuters poll had predicted a month-on-month decline of 2.5%.

Imports fell by 1.7% compared with March, the federal statistics office reported, versus analysts' expectations for a 1.0% fall.
