Qatar has appointed its top diplomat as the country' new prime minister.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was sworn in during an oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday, according to Qatar News Agency.

Sheikh Mohammed has held the position of foreign minister since 2017.

He replaces Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Al Thani, who had served as the country's prime minister and interior minister since January 2020.
