Japanese utilities have concerns over escalating tensions in the Middle East as any supply disruption in the region will have a big impact on fuel supply and prices, an industry group said on Friday.

Kingo Hayashi, chairman of Japan's federation of electric utilities and president of Chubu Electric Power Co Inc, told reporters if transportation in the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted, it would significantly impact the fuel procurement volume and price.
