More than 1,600 public projects have been crippled in Iraq over the past 10 years because of mismanagement and other reasons, the country’s Prime Minister has said.

A government probe into those projects which cover several sectors has failed to re-start them despite the urgent need for them, Mohammed Al-Sudani said.

He was quoted as telling a committee created to revive those projects at the week end that “there is a pressing need to tackle all problems blocking the projects.”

“Al-Sudani was informed by the committee that there are more than 1,600 stalled projects which have accumulated over the past 10 years,”Al-Iqtisad News said.

“The Prime Minister affirmed that it is time to take measures to revive those projects and tackle all obstacles blocking their execution.”
