Work on developing and managing Askar landfill will start on Tuesday. Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf announced the project aimed at enhancing air quality standards.

He said 1.7 million tonnes are dumped at the Askar landfill annually – 45 per cent of which are recycled, in compliance with health, environmental and technical standards.

He underscored the importance of a national waste management strategy, which aims to cope with demographic and urban development across Bahrain.
