The contract had been awarded by Bahrain's Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry to the company for installation of the solar panels, and other components of storage and control of the system.
This comes in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the government's keenness to encourage the use of natural resources to generate clean and renewable electricity and preserve the environment as part of its sustainable development goals.
The ministry is encouraging companies to take advantage of the abundant solar energy in the kingdom to produce electricity at a lower cost while reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and thus, reducing the harmful emissions.
"This project is part of the ministry's strategic plans to implement renewable energy projects to achieve the national goals and its constant interest in improving and developing mass transport facilities and services in the Kingdom," remarked Nada Yousif Deen, the assistant undersecretary for Land Transport at the ministry.
A total of 32 bus stations have already been installed with the solar panels to help generate electricity that can be used to illuminate the stations and advertisement panels, she added. -TradeArabia News Service
