New technology and pricing model make color printing more affordable, more accessible to more people

Dubai, UAE - A new color printer from Xerox Corporation MEA features a breakthrough in solid-ink technology that, for the first time, makes color printing as affordable as black-and-white.

The Xerox Phaser® 8860 color printer is the first printer to feature the next generation of Xerox's solid-ink technology. Nearly five years in development, the new crayon-like ink sticks have been developed to last longer than ever before. By increasing the total number of color pages the ink sticks produce, Xerox has drastically reduced the price of color printing. When comparing the cost of the device and the ink, printing on the Phaser 8860 is two times less expensive than using equivalent laser printers from other competitive manufacturers.

Previously launched in North America and Western Europe, the Phaser 8860 was named an Innovative Office Product of 2007 by Better Buys for Business - an independent, U.S.-based office equipment analyst firm.

Designed for virtually any business with print volumes between 1,000 and 10,000 pages per month, the Phaser 8860 color printer is ideal for companies - such as real estate agencies, marketing firms, design agencies and contractors - which  depend on color for business proposals, collaterals and reports, as well as everyday documents such as email, spreadsheets and more.

"Our customers told us that they want and need high-quality color printing to support their business, but that price was a barrier," said Natesh Mani, Director, Office Business, Xerox MEA.  "By focusing our research on advancements in solid ink, we can now make printing a page in color as inexpensive as black-and-white and at total costs that are much lower than comparable printers from other companies. Now, businesses can take the locks off the color printer and depend on the affordable advantages of Xerox printers for all their printing needs - in any color.  And, they can do it knowing the environmental advantages of solid ink significantly reduce waste."

With Xerox's cartridge-free solid ink technology, the ink sticks, which are simply dropped into the color-coordinated ink trays, require minimal packaging and generate 90 percent less waste than comparable laser printers.

"The new Xerox cartridge-free solid inks are each only one-third the cost of the black supplies. What this means (and our tests confirmed) is that now - for perhaps the first time in the history of workgroup office color printing - you can print almost any document in full color on this desktop printer for the same cost as printing it in black and white," said David R Spencer, president of the SpencerLab Digital Color Laboratory, which has independently tested the Phaser 8860.

With print speeds as fast as 30 pages per minute in color and black and white, a 750 MHz processor and true Adobe PostScript3, the Phaser 8860 produces color prints that are Pantone-color approved, meaning the image quality matches the tough standards of Pantone's color system. Automatic two-sided printing and N-up printing, which enables users to print multiple pages onto one, allow more images to fit on a single sheet of paper.
