US$6.05 billion Phase 1 of Vietnamese LTI Airport project is attracting great foreign investors and suppliers attention

US$122 million earmarked by Ghanaian authorities for rehabilitation of domestic airports

August 17, 2011: Business opportunities to develop Vietnamese and Ghanaian airport infrastructure will be discussed at the Emerging Markets Airport Suppliers Conference (EMASC 2011) scheduled to be held on 11th &12th  December 2011 at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai (UAE).

The conference focuses on major airport projects under construction and expansion in the Emerging Markets of the Middle East, Africa, Asia & Eastern Europe and will provide updates on new solutions and technologies available in the market for efficiency, safety, speed and comfort in airports. It is estimated that Emerging Markets have allocated more than US$150 billion for airport development projects over the next few years.

Director of Air Transport, Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, VO Huv Cuong, will discuss the country's huge programme for airport expansion and improvement that will see ten international airports operating in the country by 2020. Last month, Vietnam approved the plan for Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA) project which will gradually replace the existing Tan Son Nhat to become Vietnam's biggest international airport and one of the regional hubs for international airlines. The three-phased airport project, with estimated investment cost of US$6.05 billion in the first phase, is attracting great foreign investors and suppliers attention.

Following the Vietnam presentation, Ms. Doreen Owusu Fianko, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Ltd will be speaking on Ghanaian government's plan to spend US$50.9 million for the third phase of the Kotoka International Airport rehabilitation project. Besides, she will also be talking about business opportunities for suppliers at the Ghana's domestic airports - Kumasi, Sunyani and Takoradi, for which the government has allocated US$122 million for the rehabilitation. These investments come in wake of tremendous air traffic growth projections for Ghana which indicate rise in aircraft movements from 15,225 in 2009 to 27,882 in 2024.
