With a focus on education standards, local educational leaders in the UAE are being encouraged to improve their institute's standard ratings by offering more extracurricular activities and raising the standard of English language education through Cambridge Young Learner Exams (YLEs), which have been launched at International House Dubai Exam Centre, as part of its Education Consultancy Solutions.
IH Dubai has successfully achieved the Young Learner Exam (YLE) Approved Centre status and will begin delivering Young Learner Exams from September 2010
Adding to the range of exams offered by IH Dubai for adults in business and general study, which include KET, PET and Business Certificates - BEC, the YL exams will offer qualifications for younger learners enabling them to begin their English language career at age five with the Starters exam and offering progress and development through Movers and Flyers and onwards during their lifelong learning.
Throughout the whole Cambridge suite of exams, students develop the skills needed to communicate effectively in English and make sure they are preparing for future higher education goals.
Clair Hattle, Director of Studies, said, "We went through a rigorous approval process to achieve our University of Cambridge Examination Centre status 2 years ago and are delighted that we have responded to local needs by providing specialist young learner qualifications to individuals and schools in the region. We are looking forward to welcoming our first YLE students in October."
"We would strongly encourage parents and educators to consider enrolling your children and students for a YLE qualification. By investing in their learning and development now, you can ensure that the young people of our community are confident in their abilities and able to meet the challenge of leaving school with the right level of language skills to enter universities and the workplace. Nurturing English language learning from a very young age is the single most effective way of developing proficiency in the language."
YLE qualifications are designed to support learners in language and to enable them to see what they 'Can Do..' when speaking, writing, reading and listening to the target language. The exams also increase motivation, self-assessment and ensure that learners continue to progress at an optimum level. Training courses for teachers and extracurricular classes can be tailored to the needs of individual educational institutes and their leaders.

The University of Cambridge ESOL offers the world's leading range of certificates for learners and teachers of English - taken by over 3 million people in 130 countries. They help people gain entrance to university or college, improve job prospects or measure progress in English. More than 10,000 employers, universities and government bodies around the world recognise Cambridge ESOL qualifications.
Young Learner Examinations (YLE) Cambridge ESOL we believe that learning should not be stressful for children, it should be fun and stimulating. Their studies should make reading, listening and speaking in English come naturally. As their confidence develops, they will want to learn more and use English to a more challenging level.
There are three levels for children to work through, Starters, Movers and Flyers, with Starters being the first, aimed at young children with very basic skills.
As children develop and work their way up to the Flyers certificate, they reach a level that will enable them to aim for the Key English Test (KET) or the Preliminary English Test (PET) in our General English range of certificates -- qualifications which will be of value for further study or in the workplace.
