Sharjah, UAE: As part of an annual initiative to increase health awareness in the UAE community, Sharjah Health Authority (SHA) and University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) offered health examinations and screenings to visitors and staff of Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), Sharjah Human Resources Authority (SHRA), and Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority in the past two months.

This year, UHS aims to partner with more government, semi-government and private entities, in order to bring more awareness to healthy living. Over 500 visitors and staff from Sharjah Economic Department, Sharjah Human Resources Authority and Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority received free medical tests for obesity, blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI). Taking inspiration from the directives of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the focus of the health awareness campaigns is to raise awareness of the necessity of early diagnosis and its impact on treating various the medical conditions.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Ali Obaid Al Ali, CEO & Board of Trustees, at University Hospital Sharjah, said: “As part of ongoing efforts to increase the overall health of Sharjah, we are partnering with SEDD, RTA and SHRA to ensure they receive medical tests and shift towards healthy lifestyle choices. With improved health education and regular assessments, medical issues can be detected early, when they are less of a threat.”

The SEDD, SHRA and RTA have a long-standing reputation for supporting Sharjah’s vision with multiple community initiatives and projects. The national trend towards improving health education and the importance of regular medical tests has spurred the SEDD, SHRA and RTA to do their part for its government employees as their health and wellbeing is of the highest priority.

During the health awareness campaigns at SEDD, SHRA and RTA, UHS medical professionals provided a variety of tests for employees and visitors as well as personalised sessions with a UHS specialist dietician and nutritionist, who guided those with high BMI and cholesterol in leading healthier lives, were also available. Sharjah Health Authority supported the events by providing insurance information, briefing SEDD, SHRA and RTA participants on eligibility.

The campaigns’ free screenings are part of the hospital’s ongoing series of community initiatives, and follow the hospital’s successful collaborations with Pink Caravan, Friends of Cancer Patients, Sharjah Charity International, Sharjah Media Cooperation and other government entity campaigns, which help spread awareness for the early detection of breast cancer and other illnesses.
