Venturing into the unknown has always been considered a challenge because of the many wonders and mysteries that the place holds. This is the reason Al Ghurair City is hosting the Cyber Zone where children can experience a world unlike the one they live in now, and which puts them in a trance.
Yasmin Mussbeh, member of DSS Back-to-School Surprises Committee, said: "The Cyber Zone will be open to all the children who want to participate as of August 12 until August 18, during the Back-2-School Surprises week organized by the Department of Economic Development. During this week, children will be able to showcase all their skills and knowledge in science, arts and mathematics that help transform a child into a capable and talented personality".
She added: "The Cyber Zone consists of 10 personal computers and each one will be able to accommodate one child who is prepared to participate by answering a number of questions that the computer poses to them in the fastest and most accurate way. The questions range from different sectors like science, history, the Internet, mathematics, all of which to answer, require the speed and the intelligence of the participant".
The computers that have been set up for this competition have been specially programmed to take in every answer that the participant gives and save it in its system. A supervisor will be available at all times to make sure all is well in the zone. The computer has also been programmed to time the child who answers most of the questions correctly, and also in the fastest possible time.
She pointed out that the questions posed will differ on a daily basis, so no questions will repeat itself, and the competition will also vary to suit the age group of the children who will be participating.
She pointed out that winners of each daily competition during the Back-2-School Surprises event will move on to the finals which will be held on the last day of the Back-2 School Surprises, where the smartest children will get together to compete on many of the cultural and educational questions, leading to the selection of the last three final winners of the overall competition.
Cyber Zone has been so named because of its strange and galactic faade and internal features, with computers transporting children into a zone unlike the norm. Right in the middle of the zone is a huge glass that beams different and beautiful colored lights that are really set to awe all those entering it.
Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in the penultimate theme week, the Back-2-School Surprises organised by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18, and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19-27, 2004.
