United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and Technische Universität Berlin have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work closely together on six priority areas for both institutions.
The agreement, signed by Professor Rory Hume, Provost of UAEU, and Professor Günther Seliger of Technische Universität Berlin focuses on the following:
Fostering the education and research cooperation between Germany and the UAE.
Organising joint study programmes, addressing the development of study courses at the Bachelor and Master level, including for the purpose of awarding double degrees.
Promoting scholarships for research and training development in each university.
Exchange of professors, researchers, students, technical and administrative personnel.
Exchange of scientific materials, as well as exchanging the experiences available at both institutions.
Sponsoring cooperative seminars, workshops, and other scientific meetings on matters of mutual interest.
Professor Rory Hume, Provost, UAEU, said:
"It is an enormous privilege for us to be signing this agreement with Technical University of Berlin. UAEU is firmly committed to providing research of direct relevance to the nation. This MOU will build solid cooperative links across our mutual interests but particularly in the manufacturing and mechanical engineering field - both of which are of vital importance to the development of UAE Industry.
"I look forward to faculty and students benefiting from the short visits exchange programme which will accelerate training and research collaboration in the manufacturing and advanced machine tools areas. This will also support the learning experiences of the relevant engineering students sponsored by companies in the manufacturing area."
Professor Reyadh Almuhaideb, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UAEU, said:
"The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the UAEU looks forward to building a stronger collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin in the area of sustainable manufacturing. The exchange programme we have signed today will strengthen the relationship with one of the leading German universities, and will support high caliber research and teaching in the area of manufacturing which will benefit the UAE.
