Seventeen UAE nationals within the 'HSBC University' programme have recently completed six months of comprehensive training. The programme includes a combination of classroom events, business projects and attachments to various branches and departments at HSBC.  A total of 107 nationals have so far attended the HSBC University, out of almost 700 UAE nationals employed by HSBC Bank Middle East Limited.

The HSBC University was officially launched in February 2004 to induct UAE nationals into a specific job role following an agreed training and development programme. By enrolling in the University, staff are given clear direction and pace for their chosen career and development.

Celia Daniels, Head of Human Resources and Colin Mann, Regional Manager Training at HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, hosted a graduation ceremony which was attended by Mr Essa Ali Bin Salem Al-Zaabi, Employer Relations Unit from Tanmia along with HSBC managers and staff. Certificates were presented to all successful candidates. In addition, prizes for the 'Best Trainee Award' were given to Maryam Abdulrahman and Mohamed Al Rayes for being the highest achievers.

"HSBC strives to attract the very best talent in the market to join us. As one of the world's leading international financial institutions, we can provide unlimited opportunities for people who want to develop their career. Currently, HSBC is one of the biggest employers of UAE nationals in the banking industry with staff working in all areas of the Bank," said Celia Daniels.

"In addition to local training under the HSBC University umbrella, we offer future UAE national executives of the Bank the opportunity to attend HSBC Group's Graduate Development Programme at the Group's learning centre in the UK," added Daniels.

HSBC is a founder partner in Emiratisation.org, an association of managers recently launched, that explains the benefits of recruiting UAE nationals in the private sector. The steering committee gathers once a quarter for discussions, decisions and presentations and encourages companies from all sectors to join.

HSBC has received a number of awards for its success in attracting and developing UAE nationals in a banking career. Moreover, the Bank held several recruitment drives to provide young and experienced UAE nationals the opportunity to learn about various areas of the Bank's business, as well as a chance to meet managers and staff to consult on the opportunities available for a fulfilling career.
