Dubai, August 9, 2004 - With only a few weeks left before the back to school flurry begins, Knowledge Surprises week is forcing children's brains into learning mode again with fun and interactive quizzes throughout the city. The General Knowledge Trivia Quiz is one such, and it will be heading to a mall near you before the week ends on Wednesday.

The eighth of the 10-week Dubai Summer Surprises extravaganza, Knowledge Surprises week organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry features five theme worlds stationed at city malls: Geography/Discover the World at the Al Bustan Centre in Ghusais, Little Trader at Mercato, Science at BurJuman Centre, Health at Al Ghurair City and Space and Technology at Deira City Centre. In addition, the DCCI has organised a variety of rotating events, including a recycling workshop, a glow in the dark workshop, funny mirrors and a trivia quiz.

The trivia quiz, which has already made its way through Lamcy Plaza, Hamarain Centre and Century Mall, touches on a variety of topics including heritage, science, culture and other general interest subjects. On Tuesday, August 10, it will be at the Bin Sougat Centre in Rashidiya from 5pm to 10 pm and on Wednesday, August 11, the last day of Knowledge Surprises, it will be at the Oasis Centre at the same time.

Nuha Safar, head of the Knowledge Surprises Committee, said the trivia quiz is a fun, educational program that touches not only on general knowledge but also on the activities of Knowledge Surprises week. During breaks between quizzes, UAE national children will perform traditional dances and sing traditional songs, she added.

Thus far, she said, all the quizzes held at the various malls have generated very good levels of participation, with even parents and other shoppers stopping by to cheer on the teams and learning something new for themselves.

"The main goal of this week is to increase the brainpower of the children, to plant the seeds of knowledge," Safar said. "Even if they don't answer correctly, they learn something because they will get the answers. It's an atmosphere of fun where everyone walks away a winner."

Safar added that the DCCI Knowledge Surprises committee is working hard to provide a challenging week to children and the families.

Dubai Summer Surprises 2004 is currently in the Knowledge Surprises by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry from August 5-11, Back-2-School Surprises by the Department of Economic Development from August 12-18 and ends with the Colour Surprises by the Department of Health and Medical Sciences from August 19-27, 2004.
