Dubai, United Arab Emirates - August 24, 2011: The Continual Improvement Sub Group (CISG) of the Dubai Quality Group (DQG) has announced the Third Continual Improvement Symposium which will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011, "World Quality Day 2011".
The symposium is being launched as a unique annual event to facilitate sharing, recognizing and learning from best practices. It will present actual case studies in continual improvement by organizations in various sectors. Highlights include four live competitions, including Quality Quiz, Kaizen (continuous improvement), Breakthrough Process improvements using methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean and BPR and Innovation in products, services, processes and business models.
According to Sunil Thawani, Chairman, Continual Improvement Sub Group, "The continual improvement and innovation of business, products, services and processes is critical to sustainability of organizations in today's business environment, more than ever." Seminars and symposia like the Third Continual Improvement Symposium provide much needed platforms for organizations to contribute, learn and adapt best practices to enhance the performance of their employees, Thawani added.
The CISG had successfully organized the First and Second Symposia featuring the above competitions in 2009 and 2010, which were attended by more than 150 delegates, winning high appreciation.
The volume of participation in the annual Continual Improvement Symposium has consistently grown. Four companies from the UAE participated in the first symposium in 2009 and submitted 58 case studies indicating annualized savings of AED 2.25 million, whereas nine organizations, also from the UAE from various industry sectors (banking, manufacturing, healthcare, travel and infrastructure services), participated in 2010 and submitted 59 case studies with annualized savings of AED 28.83 million. All case studies were later shared with the wider business community through DQG website. The Third Symposium aims at attracting case studies and teams not only from the UAE but also from all over the world.
The on-stage presentation of case studies in a competition format will provide the audience with a first-hand learning experience of improvements at various levels in a variety of organizations hailing from different parts of the globe.
The final winners will be decided based on the quality of improvement (in terms of creativity, thoroughness of implementation, replicability and actual benefits) and the performance of the contestants in the presentations and Question & Answer sessions.
The judges will be eminent personalities who have vast experience in continual improvement methods, tools and techniques as well as in business management.
The audience will also benefit from the ideas of keynote speakers invited from various parts of the world, including American Society for Quality and TRIZ Asia, who will share the most up-to-date thoughts, knowledge and information in the field of quality and process improvement.
It is worth mentioning that last year's Quality Quiz witnessed the participation of 11 teams consisting of 44 participants. It covered the topics relating to TQM and Business Excellence in general, with particular focus on Continual Improvement and related topics.
Saeed Fadhel Al-Mazrooei, CEO, Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) said in a statement: "Last year, it was the first time EMAL participated in the Continual Improvement Symposium and it was also one of the first contracts with DQG, since we became members. It was encouraging to find out that in the world of business excellence, we were not alone and there are many other companies involved in the never-ending journey of continuous improvement. We also participated in the competitions and I was surprised about the high level of Kaizens and other improvements that were presented. All these go to make business practices better. EMAL was awarded with a Silver award in the Quality Quiz and a Bronze award in the Kaizen category, which makes us very proud and motivates us to keep participating in such events and share our successes with other companies in the UAE."
