The Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur R. Metshin, paid a visit to Dubai on January 27th at the invitation of Khalaf Al Habtoor, Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, to continue discussions on investment opportunities in the Kazan region.
Mr Khalaf and the Mayor of Kazan already held preliminary discussions on the matter in November 2010 when Mr Khalaf travelled to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan and part of the Russian Republic, at the invitation of Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan.
Four possible projects in the Kazan region were discussed. They included development of the bank of the Kazanka River, construction of a number of multi-tier parking lots and the building of two residential developments.
Tatarstan is to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2013 and the CIS Summit. It also has an independent exhibit at London's World Travel Market for the first time this year.
Since the initial meeting in Kazan, the Al Habtoor Group has been in touch with the government in relation to the projects. Thursday's meeting served to further plans, bringing Mr Al Habtoor one step closer to investing in the project.
Mr Khalaf hosted a special dinner on Friday January 28th in honour of the Mayor, Mr Ilsur R. Metshin, at his home in Dubai. It was attended by a number of dignitaries and members of the business community. The Mayor was accompanied by the Vice Mayor, Mr Oscar V. Prokopiev, and his advisor, Mr Ivan Kuznetsov.
