Jeddah, 23rd January 2007: Tetra Pak lauded the weeklong nationwide milk drinking campaign launched by the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this week. In a press statement issued today by Amar Zahid, managing director of Tetra Pak Manufacturing Limited said, "We appreciate the ministry's concern over the health of children and strongly support the weeklong awareness raising campaign to encourage men, women, and children to drink more milk for a healthier lifestyle. Nourishing food like milk plays a vital role in building and keeping bones strong," he added.
Tetra Pak recently organised many awareness raising events as part of its school milk programme done in collaboration with its customers like Jamjoom-Rainbow, Nadec and Nada, which are also encouraging children to drink more milk. "In line with its motto, protects what's good, Tetra Pak has always believed in spreading its message of protecting bones through milk, healthy beverages and food consumption to a wider audience. We believe this can be of valuable support to the work of the Ministry of Health," remarked Jesus Ortega, Business Development Manager Tetra Pak Manufacturing.
Tetra Pak recently joined hands with the Ministry of Education (MoE) to celebrate World School Milk Day (WSMD), an educational fun day across the kingdom targeting school-going children between seven and 10 years. The campaign involved teachers and more than 10,000 children. The event was a kick-off to start the ball rolling for a series of larger celebrations organised by the Ministry of Education School Health Department for Boys and Girls in factories and primary schools in Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam.
Tetra Pak is also supporting the work of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) in many countries of the world to help spread this message worldwide. Under this three-year cooperation agreement with IOF, Tetra Pak will be a major partner for IOF activities to promote awareness of how individuals can build strong bones and contribute to their own bone health. The objective is to raise awareness on improving bone health by having a healthy diet, staying active and keeping abreast of the risk factors of osteoporosis. IOF identifies milk and other dairy food as being among the richest and most readily available dietary sources of calcium, an essential nutrient in building bones.
