Abu Dhabi - Tadweer (Waste Management Center - Abu Dhabi) has adopted SMS text messages in an initiative to raise the awareness of the residents of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra to the importance of separating waste, the dangers of wasteful consumption and the significance of putting trash in its assigned trash bin. In collaboration with Etisalat and Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, the awareness campaign took place during the Holy Month of Ramadan through the use of a series of Mobile Text Messages that raise awareness about water and electricity bills.

Regarding the initiative, H.E Eng. Saeed Al Mehairbi, Acting General Manager of Tadweer (Waste Management Center - Abu Dhabi) explains: "At Tadweer, we try to benefit from any means or technology that can achieve constructive communication with the public, and we always employ it to raise awareness and benefit our educational objectives, especially that mobile phones have become one of the essential elements of life at this day and age, never leaving the hands of both young and old, and therefore our choice was successful in terms of speed of access to the target groups.”

H.E Al Mehairbi stressed Tadweer’s keenness to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and encouraging the people of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to adopt sound environmental behaviors and habits that serve the Center's short and medium-term strategy for waste management and fighting public health pests; seeking to achieve the environmental vision of Abu Dhabi 2030 by establishing sustainability values and focusing on the consumer, change culture, social responsibility, empowerment and care.

It is worth mentioning that these awareness messages have included a number of targeted, concentrated phrases that settle in the consumer's mind and deliver the main objectives in Arabic and English. The messages included "No waste, reduce food waste" and "Dispose of waste in their dedicated containers, and preserve the cleanliness of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi".
