Manama - December 24, 2012
338 students from 13 government secondary schools have so far benefited from INJAZ Bahrain's "Job Shadow" program for the current academic year 2012/2013
The program, which is being conducted in partnership with 6 leading local organizations from the industrial, services, and financial sectors, aims to provide students with real-life opportunities to learn about fundamental business concepts - such as revenues, costs, competitiveness, and market dynamics - that will help shape their future careers.
Commenting on the program, Sh. Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Executive Director of INJAZ Bahrain said, "By enabling students to see first-hand how organizations work through its various functions, we are helping to inspire our youth to excel in whichever field they choose. We are extremely appreciative of the support and encouragement extended to us from our partners, volunteers, and the Ministry of Education over the years to prepare the next generations of Bahrainis for the real world."
The program is delivered through in-classroom learning activities and a one-day field visit to specific host companies. During these visits, the volunteers from the host company talk to students about their career experiences and allow them to shadow them and their colleagues in their various roles.
Students are also required to engage with the host company's employees and prepare reports on what they learned from the experience, and asked to develop a personal plan of action on how to achieve their academic and career goals.
Expressing her view about the positive impact of the program, Noora Al-Aazmi, a Job Shadow volunteer form Gulf Air, said "It was an inspiring journey to take in young Bahrainis for a real life workplace and exchange new ideas and thoughts with them. My students were very excited and enthusiastic to discover new things related to different jobs and careers, and I will be looking forward to doing it again next year."
The 6 organizations who took part in the program during this year were Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), Gulf Air, Bahrain Telecommunication Company (Batelco), Khaleeji Commercial Bank (KHCB), and Bahrain National Gas Company (BANAGAS).
