The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ethiopia commemorated the 74th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s independence at the Embassy premises on 4 February 2022 with the participation of mission staff and their family members.

The event commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by Attaché Chamara Dharmawardena, followed by the playing of national anthems of Ethiopia and Sri Lanka. Two minutes of silence was observed in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.

The traditional oil lamp was lit by the staff of the Embassy. Thereafter, the Independence Day messages of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka were conveyed to the audience by the Embassy officials.

The event concluded with the serving of Sri Lankan milk rice, traditional sweetmeats and Ceylon Tea.
