Dubai: The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) concluded recently, its educational workshop titled ‘Legal Security’. Attended by representatives of 52 government entities, the workshop was a perfect platform to raise legal awareness and promote a legislative culture that ensures sound implementation of legislation and establishes the foundations of justice, security, and equality as enshrined in the Constitution of the United Arab Emirates. The virtual event was facilitated by Mr. Iyad Mohammad Tanash, Legal Adviser at the Technical Office of the SLC.
H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General, stressed the importance of the educational workshop on legal security as it deals with one of the pillars of the Union and a fundamental principle that guarantees the rule of law, justice, equality, security, tolerance, protection of rights, and community happiness. Al Muhairi pointed out that the massive government participation in the workshop reaffirms high confidence of government entities in the SLC as a driving force in enriching the legal knowledge base necessary for sustainable and balanced legislation.
Al Muhairi added: “Today, the importance of legal security is gaining momentum as one of the most widely used concepts in the legal and judicial fields. Legal security aims to sustain stability of legal relations among individuals to enable them to act in a legal manner and avoid illegal transactions and processes. Legal security is one of the pillars of modern states, hence, it is now becoming a top priority for all countries. Therefore, it has become a necessity for economic and social development. There is no economic development without legal security.”
Al Muhairi also pointed out that the workshop demonstrates the continuous commitment of the SLC to provide government entities with an opportunity to acquire modern legal and legislative knowledge, which is needed in order for them to prepare, develop, and implement progressive and forward-looking legislation in line with the vision of our wise leadership. The workshop yielded a successful agreement with local government entities in terms of understanding the factors that support legal security, as well as the challenges in achieving this fundamental principle that underlies the drafting of effective legislation. We at the SLC will continue to support the Dubai government endeavors to promote the importance of legal security with a view to achieving excellent governance and an inclusive, harmonious, and happy society.
The virtual workshop witnessed in-depth discussions on the principles, components, and constitutional value of legal security. It also covered the challenges surrounding the legal security and the procedures ensuring the protection of this principle that guarantees the rule of law, peaceful coexistence, tolerance, security and safety of the UAE communities.
