Siemens Healthcare has delivered the region's first multi-axis Angio system to aid in Cardiothoracic procedures to one of the largest healthcare providers in the region. The patients of the Heart Hospital in Qatar are set to benefit from a specialized suite of cardiac care equipment solutions, which will enable physicians to treat heart diseases more efficiently.

"The new Heart Hospital will provide specialist treatment facilities for patients with cardiac conditions in Qatar and this will extend the range of specialist services provided by Hamad Medical Corporation," said Mr. Mahmoud Al-Raisi, Executive Director of the Heart Hospital. "The cooperation between our team and the teams from Ali Bin Ali and Siemens has made working on this project a real pleasure and we look forward to completing this project together this year."

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is mandated by the Ministry of Health in Qatar, under the guidance of the Supreme Council of Health, to pursue excellence in Health and to ensure the provision of high quality patient centered care to the population of Qatar. The group currently provides more than 90% of all hospital services throughout Qatar and employs approximately a staff of 16,000 medical professionals. The angiography system delivered to the hospital is expected to become fully operational in April this year when the dedicated cardiovascular care facility, a part of the HMC group of hospitals, is due to open.

The Heart Hospital has been in the making for over six years as it plans to manage the country's growing cardiovascular disease levels. Its vision is to set up a state-of-the-art medical cardiac and cardiothoracic healthcare facility which will be a stand-alone medical facility to integrate all cardiothoracic medical and surgical services in one building. The Heart Hospital aims to be the centre of excellence for cardiac treatment in Qatar, so that patients will no longer need to travel abroad for treatment. Their portfolio of patient care will concentrate on, among others; Cardiac Catheter, Cardiac surgery, Echocardiograph and Cardiac Stress Tests, as well as outpatient clinics. With heart disease a leading cause of death both in Qatar and the region, to achieve this mission and provide sustainable comprehensive cardiac care service, the hospital was looking for an equipment mix that would provide state of the art procedures, promote increased workflow efficiency and essentially drive the delivery of improved patient outcomes.

New interventional cardiology procedures require new rooms and new equipment. The Heart Hospital chose four Siemens Angio Suites, three of which include the Artis zee biplane system. The fourth suite is equipped with the Siemens Artis zeego in a hybrid OR environment: a multi-axis system used in cardiovascular procedures. The Artis zeego offer great benefits during cardiac surgery procedures as it enables surgeons to perform pre- and post-operative imaging in the same room. This dual purpose room facilitates practices like catheter-guided procedures as well as open surgeries in the same room. Hybrid rooms help to achieve significantly improved results in an impressive range of surgical applications, improving workflow and simultaneously providing greater patient comfort. "Using a hybrid room will enable the hospital to increase its capacity for minimally invasive treatment to achieve faster, safer results which means improved clinical outcomes for our patients. With the Siemens Angio Suite the Heart Hospital will represent the first 'Hybrid Operating Room' in the region." said Maurice Faber, Vice President, Healthcare Sector, Siemens LLC.

Siemens has been expanding the boundaries of cardiology for nearly a century. Over the decades, it has developed a host of innovations that have made diagnostic imaging faster and more effective, enabling millions around the world to live longer, healthier lives. The Artis Angio Suite represents one of the latest illustrations of that legacy of forward thinking, bringing the most advanced cardiac care technology to the patients of Qatar, through the Heart Hospital.
