Featuring a Proton electronic purse, the new card allows Schlumberger and ING to pave the way for EMV migration in Belgium

PARIS - Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals, a business unit of Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB), today announced that it has launched its new Prismera EMV card to enable EMV migration in Belgium. The Belgian bank ING has already purchased 600,000 of the new Prismera EMV cards in a deal worth 3 million euros. The cards are due for national deployment in 2004.

ING is the first bank in Belgium to demonstrate a commitment to EMV migration. Adopting the EMV standard will enable ING to secure its marketing competitive advantage, while offering greater security and reducing the risk of fraud for end users. ING selected Schlumberger to supply the Prismera card for its EMV migration project due to its unique capabilities and the proven track record of Schlumberger in offering EMV solutions. The Schlumberger Prismera card is recommended by BankSys, the Belgian inter-banking organization for electronic payments authorization and security standards.

The Prismera card has been developed specifically for card issuers in markets using the Proton e-purse facility, which is widely used by consumers in Belgium. The Prismera card also offers compliance with Proton R3 standards, enabling banks to offer customers the benefits of EMV while maintaining the popular electronic purse option, which is installed on the chip.

"Not only has Schlumberger provided us with a high level of service, but they have also given us the quality and flexibility necessary to make EMV migration work for ING," said Luc Vankeerberghen, Accounts & Cards Manager at ING Belgium S.A.

"We are delighted to announce this latest contract with ING to launch EMV migration in Belgium," said Philippe Cambriel, EMEA cards vice-president at Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals. "We are currently the only card vendor to have developed a complete range of EMV products ready to embed e-purse solutions like Proton. Prismera is a clear demonstration of our commitment to providing tailored EMV solutions for banks and financial institutions operating in diverse markets."

The Schlumberger Prismera range incorporates a scalable set of applications that enables banks to provide maximum flexibility and choice for customers. The Prismera EMV solution is aimed at banks issuing cards with simple debit and credit facilities. The Prismera Lite product integrates the electronic purse Proton R3, as well as EMV compliant payment applications using SDA (Static Data Authentication) for debit or credit cards. At the other end of the spectrum, the Prismera Protect product offers top-end security features, incorporating in particular DDA (Dynamic Data Authentication) for debit, credit and PKI cards, plus a sophisticated electronic purse facility.
