UAE-based Saxon Energy has been awarded the design and build contract to relocate a high-tension line across the White Nile. The contract is part of phase 1 of the Al-Mogran real estate project in development near Khartoum.

It covers the relocation of three kilometres of central line from the capital to Omdurman, including 650 metres of line, which will cross the river. The cable will be rerouted parallel to the construction of the new White Nile bridge. Saxon has started work on the contract in co-operation with the National Electricity Corporation, which is responsible for commissioning the line. Work is expected to be completed by next March.

The bid deadline has been extended to 21 August for the main infrastructure contract on Al-Mogran. A total of 14 companies were prequalified for the contract. Tenders are due to be issued in September for a 5,500-cubic-metre-a-day wastewater treatment plant and a 220-kV substation.

The Dubai-office of KEO International Consultants is the infrastructure design consultant on the 1,700-acre, mixed-use real estate development. The local Alsunut Development Company is the client.
