MEED Events honours Saudi Rail Company, with Dr Rumaih Al Rumaih, CEO SAR accepting the award

20th September 2011, Abu Dhabi: The MENA Rail Projects event at the Beach Rotana, Abu Dhabi was the venue where The Saudi Railway Company (SAR) was awarded the 'Outstanding Contribution to MENA Rail' Award.

Accepting the award, Dr. Rumaih Al Rumaih, CEO SAR was at the event and gave explicit details of SAR's plans for the future. 

May 2011, saw SAR, the Saudi Arabian railway complete the 1,400-kilometre north-south mineral railway, saying they plan to award passenger station contracts and invite bids for three contracts to build a link between Ras al-Khair and Dammam in the coming months.

Dr. Al-Rumaih told the MEED MENA Rail 2011 Conference in Abu Dhabi this morning, "The contract for passenger stations is to be awarded in November or December, with passenger services potentially starting on the SAR system in 2014"

Bids are to be invited for the Jubail-Dammam link in December with bids for the internal rail network in Jubail industrial city to be called in January-February 2012. 

Al-Rumaih further commented that the FEED for the project has been done for the Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu. Bids for the contract to build the 100-kilometre link between Ras al-Khair and Jubail will be invited in about two weeks.

It is planned that a railway link will be built to connect the SAR terminus in Riyadh international airport and the existing SRO railway terminus in central Riyadh which services the Riyadh-Dammam railway line.
