Dubai (United Arab Emirates): The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) honoured the student Majid Ateeq Hareb, from the Colleges of Higher Technology, in recognition of his creative & technical skills in designing a logo for Leadership Development Competency Program meant for RTA employees. The winning logo was selected in a nation-wide competition among university & college students launched by the RTA three months ago.

Abdullah Al-Madani, CEO of RTA Corporate Support Services Sector, honoured the winning student and awarded him a Certificate of Appreciation along with prize money amounting to AED 10,000.

Kawthar Kazim, Director of Human Resources & Development Department at RTA Corporate Support Services Sector, said that RTA announced the competition of designing a logo for Leadership Development Competency Program in the daily newspapers and subscription was restricted to students only. The contest witnessed huge participation of competing students from universities & colleges across the UAE, such that the number of contestants reached 250 male & female students.

"RTA set up a special panel for this competition, with members selected from HR &D Dep't of the RTA. The panel shortlisted the best candidates and referred the list to the Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of RTA for selecting and endorsing a winner" commented Kawthar.

She elaborated on the procedures of the contest and said: "RTA attached conditions for participation in the contest. Such conditions, which were published in the daily papers, stipulated that participants should be students of universities & colleges in the UAE, each participant may subscribe with only one design, and the design must be inspired from the name of the program. Other conditions included that the design must be fresh and never subscribed before in other competitions. Conditions also included a brief explanation of the logo concept, and revealing the identity of the participant as well as the institution to which he or she is affiliated.

"The Program itself aims to motivate RTA employees, prompts them to enhance their technical abilities and empowers them to scale up the job hierarchy to the highest administrative & leadership levels. Through this contest, RTA is seeking to unleash the potential creative skills of students out of its firm belief in their excellent contribution in supporting agencies in the UAE.

"The Program comes in the context of the leading initiatives regularly launched by the RTA; which aim at revitalizing its role at training young national leaders capable of steering the development process of this nation. Through this competition, RTA is also seeking to play a proactive role in boosting innovative skills and fostering a constructive competitive spirit among students" said Kawthar. She concluded her remarks saying: "RTA is always seeking to play an active role in supporting national events & activities, and assume a leading role in supporting the community".
