Yahya Khalid - 25 August 2008: Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), in association with the General HQ of Dubai Police & Dubai Municipality, made huge efforts to control the water flooding that took place yesterday at Emirates Road, near Silicon Oasis; which lasted for several hours before being effectively controlled.
Engineer Hussain Al-Banna, Director of Traffic at RTA Traffic & Roads Agency and Head of RTA Emergency Team, said that the team once received a signal, immediately took to the site of the incident; where huge water bogs were accumulating almost forming an artificial lake at Emirates Road near Silicon Oasis. "The Team, in collaboration with Dubai Police, immediately closed Al Qusais-bound stream of the road and diverted traffic to Al Ain Road, University City Road and Dubai Bypass Road. Such action aimed to curb the effects of the incident, maintain the safety of road users, and open up a corridor for tanker trucks to instantly access the venue and suck the bog.
"So far the body responsible for the accident has not been identified but investigations is up and running to establish the responsible party so that necessary actions could be taken to prevent recurrence of similar incidents in future. Contractors and other companies are invited to exercise caution, and comply with work disciplines in carrying out projects to avoid similar accidents. Such incidents involve huge financial losses, and may involve human losses, as well as wasting of time & effort. It is vitally important to keep preventative measures in place as RTA will not be lenient in taking appropriate measures against offenders" said Al Banna.
He hailed the efforts of Dubai Police in closing the road and streamlining traffic in the area. He also lauded the continuous efforts of Emergency Team of Dubai Municipality; which contributed to controlling the incident and curbing its impact. Al Banna also lamented the role of water-sucking companies which provided instant response to support the efforts of emergency teams through providing scores of tanker trucks in a short notice.
