Qtel held a MMS Mobile Phone Dealer Seminar for all its dealers at the Doha Sheraton on the 10th and 11th of May 2004.
The main objective of the seminar was to train the dealers on how to set a mobile phone with embedded MMS software for the Qtel MMS service. During the event over 108 shops were represented and 165 participants were trained on how to set the different MMS handsets available in Qatar. The agents were trained on the mobile phone brands Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, Alcatel, LG and Pantech.
One of the latest developments in mobile messaging, MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) is an evolution in today's successful Short Messaging Services, which will allow Qtel customers to compose, send and receive messages using all forms of media including text, pictures, audio and video clips. MMS also has automatic and immediate delivery like SMS. Qtel plans to launch this service in the near future.

Sheikh Fahad Bin Jassim Al-Thani, Qtel Senior Manager, Wireless Marketing, who attended the seminar and addressed the dealers in an opening speech said, "We are very excited about the MMS service which we plan to launch in the near future. The main benefit of the MMS service is that Qtel customers will be able to 'share their complete experience' on the spot with their friends, family and colleagues inside Qatar. Customers will be able to send MMS to mobile phones and email addresses.
"Qtel believes the greater functionality of MMS will be the starting point of a broader customer experience which will pave the way for 3G usage," Sheikh Fahad concluded.
Mr. Soren Sorenson, Qtel Senior Manager, Wireless Sales said, "We have introduced a shortlist with tested MMS handsets to make sure our customers will be able to use this new exciting multimedia service to the fullest extent. New phones coming to the market will be tested and authorised by Qtel so customers can be assured that the phone will work with the MMS Service. Qtel will work closely with the main dealers to make sure the phones will be preset and compatible with new advanced mobile data services."
Mr. Mohammed Al-Merri, Qtel Head of Third Party distribution and Event Manager said, "We were delighted with the enthusiastic turnout at the seminar where we trained 165 participants over a two-day period. This was the biggest training event Qtel has conducted for dealers and we always feel it is our priority to involve our dealers in test procedures before the launch of new services."
The agents who successfully completed the course were certified by Qtel staff and their outlets officially received a certificate and a MMS door sticker stating 'MMS Authorised Dealer'. Qtel customers can now recognise MMS certified dealers by the sticker and get their phones set with that particular dealer.
