Doha - Qatar, 23 January 2014:  Qatargas delegates presented papers on a wide range of topics at the 7th International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), held at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha from 19 - 22 January.  Qatargas is a Principal Sponsor at the annual event, attended by over 7000 industry professionals from across the globe. 

Qatargas' environmental initiatives featured prominently in the presentations.  Ibrahim Bawazir, Surveillance Division Manager presented a paper on 'Qatargas Flaring Reduction Programme'.  Khalifa Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, Environmental Affairs Division Manager discussed 'Qatargas Greenhouse Gas Management Strategy' in his presentation. 

Bashir Mirza, Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery Project Manager delivered a presentation on the landmark project that will help the State of Qatar reduce its current flaring from LNG loading operations by more than 90% which equates to annual savings of 600,000 tonnes of gas and 1.5 million tonnes of CO2.

The bulk of Qatargas presentations were about the technical innovations and challenges related to offshore gas reservoir and production.  Tomas J. Paez, Well Engineering & Intervention Division Manager presented a paper titled - "From a Project-oriented to an Operations-focused organization - The case of QG OPCO Well Engineering and Intervention Division".  The paper discussed the multiple initiatives adopted by Qatargas' Well Engineering & Intervention Division to transition from a Project-oriented to an Operations-focused organization. 

Prashun Kumar Das, Head of Well Intervention presented a paper titled "Operational Excellence in Qatar's First Successful Rigless Heavy Duty Wireline Fishing in a Qatargas Offshore Unmanned Platform".   The paper described the approach and the technique 

applied in the fishing operation for recovering 11,414 feet of 0.23 inch electric line used in Qatargas North Field wells for data acquisition.     

Pankaj Kumar, Production Performance Division Manager and Swati Mitra, Senior Production Performance Engineer jointly presented a paper titled "Challenges in the Uninterrupted Production and Supply of Gas to Mega LNG Trains".  Fraser Ross, Head of Reservoir Studies discussed the innovative technique that can be used to understand the impact that reservoir layering has on the pressure behavior of the reservoir in his presentation titled "What happened to all my gas? P/z plots in layered reservoirs".

Other Qatargas papers at the conference included 'Materials and Corrosion in the LNG Industry - Our Experiences' by Murty Jandhyala, QA/QC Specialist, 'Collaborative APC Project Management' by Pawandeep Singh, Senior Advanced Process Control Engineer and 'Qatargas Process Safety Programme' by Saravanan Pavanasam, Senior Instrument and Control System Engineer.

A special event was organized during the conference to recognize the principal sponsors.  On behalf of Qatargas, Mr. Mansour Rashid Al-Naimi, Public Relations Manager received a memento of appreciation from the conference organizers.

Hundreds of conference delegates visited the Qatargas stand at the exhibition held in conjunction with the conference.

Delegates also visited the Qatargas LNG Plant as part of the technical tour of Ras Laffan Industrial City, during which they were able to see and appreciate the scale and magnitude of the world's largest LNG producing facility.
